Eligibility

Preference is given to juniors and seniors. Interested seniors are encouraged to apply for the first term of their senior year so as not to interfere with graduation plans. Sophomores with a strong academic record and strong recommendations will be considered. The preferred minimum grade point average for all applicants is 2.75. The number of students from a single institution may be limited if necessary to allow broad representation from participating institutions in a given semester or year.

Applications

The application process begins in fall term for the following academic year. Materials are available from your Campus Coordinator; a list of coordinators is below. Applications are generally due to your Coordinator by January 15 following which s/he will interview you and will forward the application, with a recommendation, to the Consortium. Decisions on applications are made and communicated in early March. After that, applications will be processed on a space-available basis until the end of spring term for the fall and until about October 1 for January.

Costs

Participants in the program pay normal tuition, room, and board to their home institutions in return for which the institution covers the following: Daystar's tuition, room, board, and miscellaneous fees including the cost of a shuttle bus pass; round trip air fare to and from Nairobi; and a program fee which covers administrative costs of the program in the States and at Daystar, the weekend safari and other activities while at Daystar, and miscellaneous other items.

Financial Aid

Each participating institution determines policy with respect to applicability of its financial aid awards.

Status While at Daystar

If you are selected for this program and decide to go to Daystar, you will be considered in every respect a Daystar student for that semester. This means that all Daystar policies including, but not limited to, those regarding the academic program, chapel attendance, and lifestyle issues pertain to you. Significant violations of any of the policies can be cause for separation from the program and forfeiture of all academic credit and fees paid for the semester.

Grades and Credits

Daystar uses letter grades from A through F. Six weeks to two months after completion of your studies there, a transcript will be provided to your home institution. There is a wide range of practices among the participating institutions as to how credits are recorded on students' permanent records. It is your responsibility to learn about the practice at your institution.
